On September 10th, 2024, the NITEC Expo offices in Astana became a vibrant hub of learning and innovation. Qazaq Open Source Initiative (QOSI) and SUSE hosted a highly anticipated Rancher Rodeo workshop. This hands-on event brought together developers, IT professionals, and DevOps enthusiasts eager to deepen their knowledge of Kubernetes and containerization.

Starting at 9:30 AM, the event kicked off with a dynamic introduction to Kubernetes and Docker. Rancher’s technical experts guided participants through a series of practical exercises that demonstrated the ease of Kubernetes cluster deployment using Rancher. The workshop was designed to offer attendees an end-to-end learning experience, covering key topics such as Docker and Kubernetes concepts, installation and configuration of Rancher Server, Kubernetes cluster deployment, and application deployment and access.

One of the standout features of this Rancher Rodeo was the use of HobbyFarm, an interactive, web-based learning tool. This allowed participants to access training instances via an in-browser terminal, ensuring that even those new to Kubernetes could follow along with ease. The seamless integration of real-world learning scenarios helped participants not only understand the theoretical concepts but also apply them in a practical setting.

The Rancher Rodeo event saw incredible engagement from the audience. Participants were eager to ask questions, solve challenges, and explore how Kubernetes and Rancher could transform their DevOps processes. The interactive format and access to hands-on labs kept the energy levels high throughout the day, with many attendees expressing excitement about implementing these tools in their own environments.

Thanks to QOSI, this event was made possible, reinforcing the initiative’s commitment to fostering open-source solutions in Kazakhstan. The partnership with SUSE allowed for a deep dive into the practical applications of open-source tools, showing how Rancher can simplify Kubernetes management for enterprises. Participants were also keen to learn more about the Qazaq Open Source Initiative and its vision of building an open-source ecosystem that enables enterprises to adopt cutting-edge technologies without the burden of licensing fees.

As an added bonus, participants who completed a survey at the end of the workshop were entered into a prize draw for various exciting prizes, adding an extra layer of excitement to the event. This incentive ensured that feedback was gathered to help improve future Rancher Rodeo workshops while rewarding active participants.

The Rancher Rodeo at NITEC Expo was a resounding success. Thanks to QOSI and SUSE, participants left with practical skills and a newfound appreciation for the power of open-source technologies in transforming IT infrastructure. Stay tuned for future QOSI events as we continue to empower the local tech community and advance open-source innovation across Kazakhstan!
